Europe Trip Update

I have had a couple people ask me about the France trip in June 2019.  You may have noticed that they page about it is gone from the web site.  After spending countless hours in discussions with administrators, and the school board we have all come to the conclusion that the trip is really not feasible for us.

We all agree that it would be an amazing opportunity, but there are a ton of factors that make it difficult for us to pull off.  I too am sad that we will not get the opportunity to go, but we are now looking for a new trip idea that will be possible in about the same time frame.

Stay tuned for more information as we get it.  I was planning to let people down when I had an alternative plan, but since a couple have asked recently I figured I better fill everyone in .

If you have been saving to go, keep saving so that whatever else we come up with you will be all set to go.

Region Band

Is the week after Spring Break.  You can find the itinerary here.

There is a lot happening that week.  Here is what’s up:

Tuesday March 29 Band Concert at the HS 7pm start time 6:30 pm call time.

Wednesday March 30 Region Band at Springville High School.  Both bands and the percussionists are attending this.  It is part of the grade.

Thursday March 31 5th grade recruiting concert.  This is during the school day and involves everyone.

Marching Band Update:

Homecoming went very well.  I was pleased with the kids in all respects.  We still have a lot of cleaning to do if we want to place well this season, but we have a great start.  My only real issue was the fact the flags didn’t show up on time.

Here are some things to be aware of:


If you have a real legitimate reason to miss a performance with the band you MUST do the following AT LEAST 2 WEEKS IN ADVANCE:

  1.  Fill out a RALF on the Student resources page.
  2. Tell Mr. Gibson
  3. Justify why you must miss.  You need to show that you have done all in your power to avoid the absence.
  4. Get approval from Mr. Gibson for the absence.

The only exception to this is in the case of an emergency.  In that case get hold of Mr. Gibson ASAP and then fill out the RALF.

As soon as I know the performance times I will get the itineraries on the web site.  Please check back often when trying to plan around our trips.  The first 2 trips are done and on line now.


As for the Nebo trip.  We will be leaving Friday afternoon and spending the night.  I told the kids that if for some reason they could not go out on Friday that I needed to know ASAP and they will need to get a ride from a parent out to the show.  They will need to be at Payson HS no later than 8am on Saturday.  All members of the band need to pay $32 for the hotel by Monday Sept 21.  If this is a financial hardship for your family contact Mr. Gibson ASAP.


All MB fees except the last trip fee of $70 are now past due.  The last $70 is due Oct 15.  All overdue fees will be subject to a late fee.  Please get your fees caught up and paid.  You can track what I show you owe on CHARMS.  If you can’t get in email Mr. Gibson.  Remember the student id is the same as it is for school in Aspire.


The trip scheduled for next Saturday Sept 19 has been replaced with a morning practice.  We will meet and start practice at the HS at 8am and are scheduled to go until noon.

Several parents joined Celly

We discussed Charms and the advantage to the system. If you need your students ID for charms email Mr. Gibson.

Finances for the current school year were disclosed

Run da funk was announced, but the date needs to be adjusted. It will be announced soon.

The mattress fundraiser was discussed and it was agreed that it is worth trying. We will get more info soon.

Volunteers for region band just need to show up at the hs April 9 at 8am.

Parents not wishing to be a part of the marching band discussion were excused at this time.

MB registration and the schedule were discussed. This info can be found on line.

After a lengthy discussion two things were proposed that we look at:

rather than a long out of state trip it was proposed that we add a trip or two in state and look at adding to the trips we already take. Ie Boondocks or lagoon added to a trip.
Since most families spend the money on the fund raisers anyway, look at raising the fees and cutting out fundraising.

I will be putting together a proposal for both of these items and asking for feedback. Please stay tuned.

Last Concert is upon us

In fact I am here now about 30 minutes from the start.  It has been a great year, and as it comes to a close it is time to start again.

Marching Band camp is two weeks from yesterday.  That is in 13 days.  No I am not ready for camp to start, lots to do still.  However, it is time to make plans.

VJH UVU Trip April 30

The 8th grade band will be going to UVU on April 30, 2013 for a festival.  We will be leaving early, so plan now.
